You know when you finally sit down to write your weekend recap on TUESDAY that is was a busy one! We spent Friday night doing our Haw-ween traditions (hey, this is Grasshopper's 3rd Halloween so that qualifies for tradition status!) of having dinner at "Meldy" and then twick-or-tweating. Okay, so it's the first year of trick-or-treating, but it IS the third year of Halloween dinner, in costume, at Melton's. Melton's is our neighborhood pub & local gathering place where Grasshopper is much adored. Everyone there loved his Dragosaur costume and gave him candy so he was quite thrilled.
The trick-or-treating didn't go as planned since our little Dragosaur insisted on being carried. We only made it to a few houses as he weighs over 30 pounds without a winged and tailed costume! Also, it appeared that everyone in our neighborhood had gone elsewhere for trick-or-treating and it just didn't have the same feeling that JR and I remember from our childhoods. By next year we should be in a new neighborhood, so hopefully it'll be a little more festive. That being said, Grasshopper didn't know the difference and had a wonderful time.
On Saturday night we did something that happens very rarely on Mom Street, we Entertained Adults. Specifically our dear friend Aunt Kerry and her boyfriend Steve. We have been trying to get together with them for ages but either Kerry has to work, it's Steve's weekend with his daughter or we can't get a babysitter. So finally we decided that we would be able to remember how to Entertain Adults and invited them over for dinner after Grasshopper was in bed. Sneaky, right? We had a great time, drank too much wine, ate too much delicious food and had conversations that DID NOT involve Thomas the Tank Engine. All in all, a lovely evening.
We spent Sunday putting the kitchen back to rights after all of the Entertaining Adults and took Grasshopper to the park to ride his tricycle. We went to a different park than usual, one with speedhumps in the parking lot & Grasshopper spent inordinate amounts of time riding his trike up and over them. Big fun, I tell you! By Sunday afternoon we were all wiped, but had to drive an hour and a half to Grandma & Grandpa's house for dinner. It was to celebrate my birthday (which was a month ago) so it wasn't like we could skip it! Turns out that my in-laws decided to make the ONE dish in their entertaining repertoire that I can't stand, in honor of my birthday. I decided to take it as a compliment to my acting skills that they have no idea that I find this dish totally gag-worthy even when I'm NOT slightly hung over from Entertaining Adults. I ate as little as I deemed possible without being rude, then filled up on my birthday cake, which was wonderful as always.
So as you can see, we had an eventful and enjoyable weekend, but man do I need a nice slow work week to recover.
