In which I answer the siren song of The Mouse

I cannot believe that I'm saying this, but...we're going to Disney World!

Early this fall, just in time for my birthday.

JR and I hemmed and hawed about spending the money (what with trying to afford another adoption and the state of the economy and all that) but the bottom line is this: we HAVE to go to Orlando.

My father's parents reside in an assisted living facility there, and we have real doubts as to how much longer my grandmother will be with us, and how much longer my grandfather (who has Alzheimer's) will recognize us. Therefore, a trip to Orlando must be made, and if we're going to make the trip, we might as well do it right!

Also, I have some guilt (a shocking thing in a mother, right?) about the opportunities for Grasshopper that we have turned down because we are saving for a sibling. I couldn't stand the idea of not giving him this treat solely because we want another child.

So, a journey to The Mouse it is.

We have made our reservations at a Disney Resort, contacted my godparents and JR's sister who also live in Orlando so that we can see them during our stay and are now mapping out our itinerary.

That's where all of you come in, Dear Internets!

Please give me your tips and tricks for navigating the Land of the Mouse and making this vacation as fun and memorable as possible for every member of our family. We are Disney novices (JR and I have been, of course, but it has been years and we never had a three year old to manage) and therefore can use all of the advice you have to offer.

Thanks!

How exciting! I have never been, but I have a niece who is working there now so we'll hopefully be able to go.

I'll look forward to everyone's advice and, of course, your review when you're back!

Yay for you!

I have not been to Disney with kids, but Beth's mom took Noah when he was three and they had a blast so I think it's probably a good age to do it. Enjoy!

oh that's wonderful! Early fall is the best time to go; it's the least crowded then. All of the tips I would have given you revolve around crowd avoidance... lol... but you should be fine. At his age he'll love the Magic Kingdom best; just remember there is no alcohol in the MK! :'(

I will totally be your nanny for you. You want alone time, you got it. You want someone to take the kid on Dumbo for the 500th time, you got it.

I promise I will only drool when I see my man Mr. Mickey Mouse.

I love Disney even though it's like the evil incarnate. I don't think I'd ever say no to a trip there. (we just went in February)

Have a great time!

Sounds fabulous! I'm sure the time at Disney will be a nice break from the serious tone of the family visits. I haven't been since....1993...so, I'm definitely short on current advice ;-)

Hey! Just found your blog and I love it! We also have a 3 yr old son, who's adopted, and are in the process of adopting again.

Also: did Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom in March for mine and the kiddo's bday. A good website: www.mousesavers.com. And a good book: Unofficial Guide to Disney World. They have a website called www.touringplans.com. The cool thing about this book is that it has touring plans to help you skip around to the things you (and your kid) will want to see.

Also: go back to the hotel and take a nap at lunchtime. Really.

Good luck!
